Goldenrod
Solidago canadensis
About this plant
Solidago canadensis
Type: Perennial · Family: Asteraceae · Native Region: Pacific Northwest
A true garden mainstay, Canada Goldenrod is a late season pollinator powerhouse beloved by insects all over Turtle Island. Goldenrod is widely adapted to many soil, moisture, and ecotypes - but grows most vigorously in moderately moist, well draining soil and full sun. Ideal conditions can cause explosive rhizomatic growth, making it a great bargain if you're trying to create lots of habitat on a budget. Less moisture and sun will result in more managable clusters. Pairs beautifully with other vigorous growers, such as Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) and Asters.
