Field Chickweed
Cerastium arvense
About this plant
Cerastium arvense
Type: Perennial · Family: Caryophyllaceae · Native Region: Pacific Northwest
Field Chickweed (AKA Mouse Ears) is a hardy, drought tolerant ground cover and a true Bloomsday team favorite. Mat forming, long blooming, and tough as nails, this fast growing habitat builder is well at home in xeric rock gardens, hellstrips, and living roofs. Field Chickweed is even more prolific (possibly more than is welcome) in part share with medium moisture, making them excellent ground covers in woodland edges. The dainty herbaceous leaves are also edible, with a neutral green flavor ideal for garden salads.
